Mr. Joseph Simon
Gutierrez
March 19, 1970 – June 2, 2026
Joseph Simon Gutierrez, “Joe”
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Simon Gutierrez, who passed away on June 2, 2026 at the age of 56. Born on March 19, 1970 in Gary, Indiana, Joe was the cherished son of Guadalupe and Margaret Gutierrez. He grew up in Lake Station, Indiana and was known for his kindness, humor, generosity, guidance, and compassion for others. He was ALWAYS putting other people before himself, even up until the end. He was a persistent man, never giving up.
Joe attended Edison Jr./Sr. High School and worked as a Wound Care Nurse for more than 30 years. He was passionate about his family, pets, friends, patients, work, volunteering, exploring Colorado, and working on vehicles, especially Jeeps. He volunteered his foot service care at Springs Rescue Mission. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, kindness, dedication to his family, friends, pets, work, and community. Above all, Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, nurse, co-worker, and teacher. He touched countless lives with his love, kindness, laughter, wisdom, compassion and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Leslie (nee Machuca), daughter Yolanda Gutierrez (Jeremy Hunter), son Richard Gutierrez (Skye McClendon), grandson (Elliot), sisters Cynthia (Frank) Flores, Marigrace (Dan) Soto, Andrea (Michael) Gutierrez-Tillotson, nieces Norah Danielle Soto, Desirae Soto (Alejo Rodriguez), Dominique (Brian) Weaver, great nephews Moses Madrigal Jr. and Michael Lukenoff, uncle Richard (Sally) Auguano, and numerous cousins, friends, and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his father Guadalupe and mother Margaret Gutierrez, niece Dionne Soto, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
Donations may also be made to Springs Rescue Mission (www.springsrescuemission.org) in Joe’s memory.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the love, memories, and legacy Joseph Simon “Joe” Gutierrez leaves behind. He will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
